Gombe court frees woman on bail over ₦60,000 cooking oil theft claims

The Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 in Gombe, led by Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa, granted bail on Monday to a 55-year-old woman named Antine Amadu. She faces charges for allegedly receiving stolen property.

Amadu lives in Dawaki Quarters, Gombe. She was brought to court over claims that she received a gallon of Turkey oil worth ₦60,000 dishonestly.

The prosecution stated that the incident took place around 1am on August 27, 2026. They say Amadu received the oil from Ibrahim Hassan, who is from Aniya Quarters in Gombe.

According to the prosecution, the Turkey oil was stolen from Haruna Magaji, a resident of Ajiya Quarters in Gombe.

State counsel Hafsat Aliyu presented the case in court. She explained that the alleged crime violated Section 317 of the Penal Code Law. "The defendant is before this honourable court for allegedly receiving property which she knew or had reason to believe was stolen," Aliyu said.

When the charges were read to her, Amadu pleaded not guilty. After her plea, the court looked at her bail request and granted it.

The court then postponed the case until September 14, 2026, for a hearing. When the case comes up again, both sides will present evidence and make further arguments.
