Gunmen kill APC chairman in Kogi

Gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ishaq Yunusa. They also kidnapped another person in his vehicle.

This happened on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area.

ASP Afusat Saliu, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement for journalists in Lokoja on Friday.

Saliu said the attack took place around 5pm. Armed men came out from nearby bushes and started shooting at drivers.

A blue Toyota Corolla, registration number GWA 636 CH, was later found left behind on the road.

“The driver, identified as Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, was found dead in the vehicle, while another occupant was taken into the bush by the assailants,” the statement said.

The police spokesperson said the command, along with other security agencies, has stepped up operations in the area. They are searching the nearby forest to find and rescue the kidnapped person and catch the attackers.

She also mentioned that the body of the deceased has been taken to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy. The police are following all leads related to the incident.

The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has ordered ongoing security operations along the affected road. He wants to make sure the attackers are brought to justice.

The police have urged drivers and residents in the area to stay alert and quickly report any suspicious activities to the police or other security agencies.

They said they will provide more updates as new information comes in.
