Gunmen have killed a youth leader in Plateau State. Paul Danladi, who was also the former chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), was shot dead. This happened around 6 p.m. on Wednesday near Rantis Village along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi road. He was riding his motorcycle to Barkin Ladi when the attack occurred, according to the BYM.
The association confirmed the killing in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, on Thursday in Jos. They described Mr Danladi as a respected community leader and condemned his murder. They also called on security agencies to investigate and arrest those involved.
The BYM reported two other attacks in Plateau State on the same day. Two people were injured in these incidents. One person was seriously hurt in an attack around Gwom-Ajang in Foron. This person was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Another victim, identified as Mafeng Lamba, was injured along Sho Road and also taken to a hospital. The BYM mentioned that Bitrus Dadon was attacked on the same road, and his motorcycle was stolen.
These incidents happened amid ongoing worries about attacks on communities and travellers in Plateau. Areas like Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South Local Government Areas have been particularly affected. The BYM urged the Plateau State Government, police, Nigerian Army, and other security agencies to increase surveillance and intelligence gathering in vulnerable areas and along main roads.
They also called for a stronger security response to prevent more attacks and keep residents safe. Efforts to get confirmation from security agencies about these incidents were unsuccessful when this report was made.
The details surrounding Mr Danladi’s killing, along with the identities and motives of the attackers, have not been independently confirmed.
