Haaland Shines as Norway Beats Brazil to Reach Quarter-Finals

Erling Haaland put on an amazing performance as Norway shocked five-time champions Brazil 2-1 on Sunday. This victory took Norway to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the first time ever.

The star striker scored two goals in the second half in New Jersey. This brings his incredible record to 27 goals in just 14 matches for Norway, and it ended Brazil's dream of winning a sixth World Cup.

Norway started the match strong. They thought they had scored early when Patrick Berg found the net, but the goal was ruled offside. Alexander Sørloth was caught beyond the last defender when the goal was scored.

Brazil had a big chance to take the lead when Kristoffer Ajer fouled Matheus Cunha in the penalty area. Bruno Guimarães took the penalty but missed. Goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland saved the shot after a VAR review confirmed the penalty decision.

This miss was costly for Brazil as Norway settled into the game. Nyland made several great saves to stop Vinícius Júnior, Gabriel Martinelli, and substitute Endrick from scoring.

The breakthrough came in the 79th minute. Haaland jumped high to head home a cross from Andreas Schjelderup at the far post.

Haaland scored again just minutes later, firing a left-footed shot past Alisson Becker after another quick Norwegian attack.

Neymar scored a penalty deep into stoppage time after Leo Østigård fouled Casemiro, but it was too late for Brazil to change the outcome.

Haaland also made history as the first European player since Christian Vieri in 1998 to score in each of his first four FIFA World Cup matches.

Norway will now play the winner of the match between England and Mexico in the quarter-finals. Brazil leaves the tournament after another disappointing knockout loss to a European team.
