Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Baraladei Daniel Igali, has touched down in Astana, Kazakhstan. He is there for important meetings before the 2026 World Wrestling Championships.

Igali, who is part of the Bureau of United World Wrestling, will attend two Bureau meetings and the Elective Congress on Friday, October 23. These meetings will discuss governance, administration, and future plans for international wrestling. Decisions made there could influence how the sport develops worldwide.

As a member of the Technical Commission, Igali will help discuss Olympic qualification paths, competition rules, and policies to ensure fairness for wrestling nations globally. He wants to make sure all countries have equal chances to compete.

Igali has always pushed for fair representation and resource sharing in international sports, especially for developing nations. He feels that limited funds and poor facilities should not keep African countries and others from competing at the highest levels.

At the Elective Congress, he will advocate for stability, ongoing goals, and sustainable growth programs to strengthen wrestling management and support the sport's long-term development.

Besides his global duties, Igali sees this trip as a chance to learn about technical administration, athlete development, and competition management. He wants to gather global best practices in sports governance.

This experience will also help Bayelsa State prepare for the 2028 National Sports Festival. The state government is working hard to improve sports facilities.

Igali expressed gratitude to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his support and understanding of the value of international engagements. He pointed out that these meetings can greatly enhance sports management and development in the state.

He also promised to make sure that his role in the global governing body brings real benefits to Bayelsa and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria is aiming to break a three-year medal drought at the World Wrestling Championships. The country’s wrestlers are eager to return to the global podium.
