Inter Lagos has faced serious penalties from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after breaking rules during their Matchday 7 game against Katsina United on Sunday, 4 October.

The club in Lagos has been punished for several issues related to the match. These include poor security, the attack on match officials, and failing to control their officials and fans after the match ended.

The NPFL's decision stated, "Inter Lagos failed to provide adequate and effective security at the venue, allowing unauthorized persons to gain access to restricted areas."

This security failure led to an attack on the match officials as they were leaving the dressing room for their vehicle after the game.

The situation got worse as Inter Lagos did not manage their officials and supporters properly. This resulted in the match officials being held hostage for more than an hour after the final whistle.

The league found that some officials from Inter Lagos, along with fans, intimidated, harassed, and verbally abused the match officials. Their actions were seen as damaging to the integrity of the game.

More seriously, the team manager of the club and some supporters assaulted the match officials. The first assistant referee was hurt in the face during this incident and lost some personal belongings. His mobile phone was also damaged.

Because of these breaches, Inter Lagos has received several financial penalties. They were fined ₦2 million for not providing adequate security and another ₦1 million for holding the match officials hostage.

Additionally, they were fined ₦2 million for assaulting the match officials. They also have to pay ₦250,000 to the affected assistant referee for the loss of his personal items, the damage to his phone, and for his medical treatment due to the injury he received.

Besides these financial fines, Inter Lagos has received a major sporting penalty. They will lose 3 points and 3 goals from their total due to the assault on the first assistant referee.

These sanctions could have a big impact on Inter Lagos' performance as they continue their season in the NPFL.

The club has 48 hours from the time they are notified to appeal the penalties.
