Isaac Fayose says his brother won't accept Tinubu's job

Isaac Fayose has stated that his older brother, Ayodele Fayose, who is a former Ekiti State Governor, will not accept what he called a "yeye appointment". This follows Ayo Fayose's recent appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency by President Bola Tinubu.

Isaac shared his thoughts in a Facebook post on Tuesday. He was responding to a PUNCH Online article that reminded readers of Ayo Fayose’s earlier statement. He said his brother would rather stay home than work for the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government. “My brother won’t take the yeye appointment… E lo fi okan bale,” Isaac wrote, adding some laughing emojis.

The younger Fayose also criticized the appointment in a video on his Instagram page. He argued that the former governor deserved a better role in Tinubu's government. “They said they gave my brother DG, DG, not a minister, not ambassador. They said they gave him DG, head of parastatal, chairman of a committee. They no see give him minister, they no give him ambassador,” he pointed out.

He compared his brother’s situation to that of former presidential aide Reno Omokri. Isaac said, “Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador. So why just chairman of a parastatal?”

Isaac also claimed that the appointment was linked to a recent visit by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to their home. “They gave my brother DG because Obi came on Saturday to visit me. So they said, no, we must enter that family,” he alleged.

He suggested that Ayo Fayose should give the position to one of his children. He insisted that the chairmanship did not match Ayo Fayose’s political importance.

On Monday, President Tinubu appointed Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency. This was part of 26 appointments across 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

This appointment came just months after Fayose said he was not interested in working in the Tinubu administration. He has maintained a friendly relationship with the President.

In October 2025, during a discussion on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayose revealed that Tinubu had offered him a position, which he turned down. “Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir,’” he recalled.

“At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well. Tomorrow will hold itself,” he added.

The Presidency announced on Monday that Fayose’s appointment and others would take effect immediately.
