The Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for Kaduna State House of Assembly, Kawo Constituency, Yunusa Salisu, has urged party members, supporters, and fellow contestants to come together and work towards winning the 2027 general elections.
Salisu, whose name was officially released by the electoral authorities on Saturday, August 29, 2026, made this call in a statement on Monday. He expressed his gratitude to supporters and party leaders for his nomination.
He stated that being named the NDC candidate marks a significant step in his political journey. It is also a new chance to serve the people of Kawo Constituency.
"I am deeply honoured to carry the flag of the Nigeria Democratic Congress with our message: ‘Service to the People,’" he said.
The candidate dedicated his nomination to his supporters and the people of Kawo. He emphasized that his emergence should not be viewed as a win over other aspirants.
Instead, he encouraged all contestants to put aside their differences and work together for a bigger political goal.
"To my fellow contestants, I want to assure you that we are all together in this journey. There is no winner and no vanquished, we are all winners.
"Our ultimate goal is bigger than any individual ambition: to support the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket and work together for a better Nigeria," he stated.
He also called for respect and cooperation among NDC members and supporters. He stressed that the 2027 election demands unity and strong grassroots mobilization.
Salisu particularly urged young people in Kawo Constituency to actively participate in the electoral process and rally their communities ahead of the election.
"To the youths of Kawo Constituency, this is our golden opportunity. Let us come together, unite, mobilise, and turn this opportunity into reality. The time for action is now," he added.
He expressed his gratitude to his family, supporters, friends, party leaders, and others who helped his emergence as the party’s candidate. He noted that the nomination carries a responsibility to live up to the trust placed in him by the party and the voters.
"I give all thanks and praise to Almighty Allah for granting me this golden opportunity and entrusting me with this great responsibility," he said.
This development comes as opposition parties and political groups ramp up preparations for the 2027 elections. They are negotiating possible alliances and common candidates across the nation. The call for support for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket is part of broader efforts by opposition parties to strengthen their support base. This aims to avoid the divisions seen during the 2023 presidential election.
The NDC is among the opposition parties involved in talks on cooperation ahead of 2027. This includes the G100-led initiative, which seeks better collaboration among opposition parties and aims for a united presidential candidate.
At the constituency level, the Kawo candidate stated the focus will now be on mobilization. They aim to turn the party’s message of service into a grassroots campaign that can win voters' trust.
He concluded by asking supporters to stay committed to the campaign, declaring: "Service to the people! Kawo shall prosper! Nigeria will be ok!"
