Harry Kane said England had a “great preparation” as the squad arrived in Kansas City, which will be their base for the World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel’s team got to the Midwest on Saturday after a training camp in Florida. They played two friendly matches there, winning both against New Zealand and Costa Rica.
England is one of the favorites to win the World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They have come close to winning trophies in recent tournaments.
Captain Kane said the preparation for their first match against Croatia, set for next Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, has been “top drawer.”
“The way we worked, the way we trained, the preparation for games, the way we played and also just the togetherness, the way we reconnected,” he shared.
Kane also highlighted the importance of relaxation and recovery. He said, “Everything was at the highest level so I feel like we can come into this part of the camp knowing that we’ve had great preparation.”
Now that the team is in Kansas City, the 32-year-old forward feels they can “start to feel the real World Cup anticipation.”
“Obviously we’ve still got a few more days until our first game but this is where the business starts,” he said.
Kane added, “This is going to be our home for the next six weeks, hopefully, and looking forward to getting started.”
He praised England's performance in their 3-0 victory against Costa Rica, calling it “top from start to finish.” This win comes as they prepare for a tough opening match in Group L.
“Croatia are a difficult team,” he warned.
“They proved in the last two World Cups especially that they can be one of the best teams in the tournament and we have to be ready for that,” Kane said. He was part of the team that lost to Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.
Tuchel, who aims to win England’s first World Cup since 1966, said his players are “ready to go.”
