Harry Kane scored two goals as England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 on Tuesday. This win secured England's spot in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With this victory, England has now gone 11 competitive matches without losing under manager Thomas Tuchel. They also kept their perfect record against African teams in World Cup knockout matches.

DR Congo started strong. Brian Cipenga scored in the seventh minute after receiving a great long pass from Chancel Mbemba. This goal shocked the European team.

England took some time to respond. But after the first-half cooling break, they began to take control. Marcus Rashford nearly equalised, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka cleared his shot off the line. Yoane Wissa almost increased DR Congo's lead when his shot hit the post.

Before half-time, England kept pushing. Their goalkeeper, Lionel Mpasi, made several great saves, including one from Kane. At the same time, a VAR review turned down England's calls for a penalty.

As the second half started, England played with more urgency. Rashford missed a big chance, but Tuchel's changes with Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon brought new life to the attack.

The changes worked in the 75th minute. Gordon sent a perfect cross to Kane, who scored with a brilliant header into the far corner to make it 1-1.

With extra time close, England's captain had a big moment four minutes before the end. After Jude Bellingham's shot was blocked, Kane reacted quickly to send the loose ball into the roof of the net and complete the comeback.

Kane's two goals put him on four World Cup knockout-stage goals for England, tying him with Sir Geoff Hurst. Only Gary Lineker, with six goals, is ahead of him. Kane had a fantastic performance, with nine touches in the penalty area, three shots on target, and one key chance created.

Next, England will face Mexico in the Round of 16. DR Congo, on the other hand, leaves the tournament after a strong showing, marking their first appearance in the World Cup knockout stage.
