The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Halifa Abdulmajid for allegedly collecting ₦34.8 million to supply spaghetti but not delivering it.
The businessman is facing one count of criminal misappropriation of ₦34,875,000 at the Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Musa Karaye.
The charge sheet states that Mr Abdulmajid committed the offence in Kano between September and October 2024.
The prosecution claims he dishonestly misused funds belonging to a man named Fahad Adaji.
According to reports, the money was sent to a First Bank account owned by Muazu Abdullahi on Mr Abdulmajid’s instruction. This money was meant to buy IRS Spaghetti from BUA.
The charge indicates that his actions go against Section 308 of the Penal Code Law, Laws of Kano State, and could result in punishment under Section 309 of the same Law.
When the charge was presented to him on Wednesday, Mr Abdulmajid pleaded not guilty.
After his plea, the prosecution lawyer, Mustapha Maiwada, asked the court to set a trial date. He also requested that the defendant be held in a custodial centre.
The judge approved the prosecution's request, ordering that Mr Abdulmajid be kept in a correctional facility. The case was then adjourned until 2 November for the hearing to begin.
