Kano NDC Members Plan to Rejoin APC After Meeting with Governor Yusuf

The National Democratic Congress in Kano State might lose key members soon. Supporters of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the party's Kano Central senatorial candidate, are looking to go back to the All Progressives Congress.

This news came out on Tuesday night. Members of Gawuna’s political team visited Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Garo. This visit was part of talks before their planned return to the APC.

Gawuna was once the Deputy Governor of Kano State during Abdullahi Ganduje's term. He ran as the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections but lost to Yusuf, who represented the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The election result was later challenged in court.

The visit’s delegation was led by Muhammad Umar, a close associate of Gawuna. Other members included NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State, Ali Yako, Mansur Gawuna, Uba Mijinyawa, also called Uba Danzainab, and many other key members.

Others in the group were Aminu Faruk, Sani Jibrin, Salisu Muhammad, Musa Indabo, Muhammad Bala, Hassan Abdullahi, and Abdurrahman Muhammad.

The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, shared details about the visit in a statement on Tuesday.

During the visit, Umar explained that their goal was to talk with Yusuf and Garo. He said they want to see Kano grow and develop.

"We are here because of our passion for the development and progress of Kano State. Our interest is in anything that will move Kano forward and improve the lives of its people," Umar said.

He added that their talks with the state leadership were meant to find ways to help develop Kano.

"Our consultations are aimed at engaging the leadership of the state and contributing our own quota to the development of Kano. We believe that by working together, we can support initiatives that will benefit the people of the state," Umar said.

Umar also made it clear that the group is dedicated to supporting any programs that would help Kano residents.

"We are committed to supporting anything that will bring development and progress to Kano State. What matters to us is the advancement of Kano and the wellbeing of its people," he said.

Ali Datti Yako, the NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State, also spoke. He backed the Yusuf administration, saying everyone can see the governor's hard work.

"Everyone knows that Governor Yusuf is working tirelessly to transform Kano State. His efforts towards transforming the state are visible, and the people of Kano are aware of what his administration is doing," Yako said.

Yako mentioned that the visit was also to show support for Yusuf and Garo. He wants to back the efforts aimed at developing the state.

"We are here to express our solidarity with the governor and his deputy and to support the progress being made in Kano. We believe in initiatives that will bring development and progress to our people," he said.

The delegation showed support for Yusuf and Garo, and they want to help initiatives that will move the state forward.

This expected move comes as political changes happen in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections. Politicians and their supporters are reassessing their alliances.

This shift could change the political landscape in Kano, especially as the APC aims to strengthen its base before the 2027 elections.

Gawuna switched to the NDC when he became the party's candidate for Kano Central. Now, the news of his political team's members moving back to the APC could be a big deal as the 2027 elections approach.
