The Kano State Police have arrested four people and recovered three stolen vehicles in different operations from October 8 to 9.
The police shared this information in a statement on Sunday from their Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. The recoveries came after the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Ungogo Police Division acted on intelligence.
One of the recovered vehicles is a 2010 ash-coloured Toyota Corolla. The owner, Aminu Yahaya from Darmanawa Quarters, had given the car to a man named Sale Usman, also known as Dambu, to sell and send the money back.
The police said Usman took the car without permission. They later found it with a man named Sulaiman in Katsina State. Sulaiman claimed he bought the car for N7.5 million.
More Arrests
In another operation, police caught two men, Abubakar Umar, 23, from Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, from Layin Makabarta, Tarauni. They are accused of stealing a white Toyota Hiace minibus.
The minibus, with registration number NSR 261 XB, was reported stolen from Singer Market on October 5 by its owner, Isah Abdullahi from Bachirawa Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area.
Kiyawa mentioned, "Technical support helped the police trace the minibus to a remote area of Mariri Magadawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where it was recovered and the two suspects arrested."
In the third case, a 40-year-old man named Abdullahi Adamu from Potiskum, Yobe State, was arrested for allegedly stealing a Mitsubishi Canter truck. The police said a surveillance team from the Ungogo Police Division stopped Adamu on October 8 as he was taking the truck, which has registration number BLF 365 XA, to a garage at Kadawa Quarters for repainting.
Kiyawa stated, "During the course of investigation, the suspect confessed that he stole the said Canter truck from one Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum, Yobe State."
The police have contacted the Yobe State Police Command to help determine the truck's rightful owner. They also mentioned that all four suspects would face charges in court after further investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers for their quick actions and the use of technical intelligence in recovering the vehicles. He advised vehicle owners to be careful where they park, trust only reliable people with their property, and consider extra security measures to prevent theft.
The police also called on residents to share any credible information about suspicious activities, especially if they see vehicles being sold at unusually low prices.
