Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda signed the state's N828.58 billion budget for 2027 into law on Wednesday.

Ibrahim Mohammed, the governor's spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on 30 September.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, said the approved budget includes N637.85 billion for capital projects and N190.73 billion for recurrent spending. These amounts account for 76.98 percent and 23.02 percent of the total budget.

During the signing ceremony, Mr Radda mentioned that the budget reflects the priorities identified through consultations in the state’s 361 wards across its 34 local government areas.

He explained that preparing the budget involved collecting requests from residents, reviewing proposals from ministries and agencies, and undergoing legislative checks.

The governor praised lawmakers for passing the bill early and urged implementing agencies to ensure projects and programs are completed on time.

The total amount is N60 million less than the N828,638,844,091.48 budget proposal the executive council approved in August. The statement on the signing did not clarify the reason for this difference.

Implementation is still a big issue, especially given the state’s spending history with the current budget.

PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that Katsina spent N193.02 billion, which is 26.57 percent of its N726.30 billion capital allocation for 2026, as of 28 August. The overall spending was N295.19 billion, or 32.88 percent of the approved budget.

When presenting the 2027 budget proposal, Mr Radda expressed hope that spending would increase in the remaining months of 2026 as ongoing projects wrap up.

The statement on Wednesday did not give an updated figure for the implementation of the 2026 budget.
