The Kebbi State Police have arrested two people linked to the kidnapping of three newly trained military recruits. This happened along the Anka/Bukuyum Road in Zamfara State.
The police made the arrests during an operation on August 1, 2026, based on good information they received.
CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson, named the suspects as Abubakar Mallan Abubakar from Gargam Village, Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu from Ajera, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The police said early investigations showed that one suspect gave important information about the kidnapping of the three military recruits. They were taken in July 2026 along the Kwanan Mayanchi, Gurusu area of Zamfara State.
One of the victims is Kabiru Hassan from Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The other two are from Zuru Local Government Area. All three victims are now free.
“The suspects were arrested on August 1, 2026, at about 6:15 a.m. in a targeted operation based on credible intelligence.
“During preliminary investigation, one of the suspects made useful disclosures regarding the abduction of the three military recruits,” the police spokesperson said.
He also mentioned that the case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for more investigation.
Kebbi State Police Commissioner, Umar Mohammed Hadejia, praised the officers for their successful operation. He assured that the police will do everything to make sure those involved in the crime face justice.
“The Kebbi State Police Command is committed to finding, arresting, and prosecuting everyone linked to this case and other crimes.
“We will keep working hard to carry out intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety and security of our people,” the commissioner said.
The police also called on the public to keep helping security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to fight crime in the state.
