The Kebbi State Police have found a large number of stolen electricity cables and arrested a suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, in Bunza Local Government Area.

This recovery took place on August 25, 2026, during a police operation in the Kara area of Bunza town. This operation followed complaints about ongoing theft and damage to electricity infrastructure in the area.

A statement from the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, revealed that police recovered 10 bundles and seven sacks of electricity cables during this operation.

The police noted that vandalizing electricity infrastructure had “plunged several communities into darkness” and disrupted power supply for many residents.

Mustapha Abubakar was arrested in connection to the stolen cables and was later taken to court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, stated that the police are committed to protecting important national assets. He promised to bring those behind the theft and damage to justice.

Hadejia said, “The Command will continue to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of critical national infrastructure.”

He also warned, “Perpetrators of these criminal acts will face the full weight of the law.” He encouraged residents to help the police by reporting any suspicious activities.

The CP urged the public to report any unusual movements or activities by calling 09039911876 or 07081974395. He assured them that “all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.”
