Kogi Sports Writers Support ECN Boss for NBBF Leadership

The Kogi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has backed Dr Mustapha Abdullahi for the upcoming Nigeria Basketball Federation election. He is the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

Olatunde Odimayo, the Acting Chairman of Kogi SWAN, said sports stakeholders should support candidates who have the vision and skills to improve Nigerian sports, especially basketball.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by Odimayo, he praised Abdullahi, known as DAM, as a candidate with the experience and leadership needed to advance Nigerian basketball.

Odimayo pointed out that Abdullahi's background in basketball administration and his role as Director-General of the Energy Commission make him capable of bringing new ideas and good management to the NBBF.

Abdullahi also serves as the Chairman of the Kogi State Basketball Association. The Kogi State Government has shown its commitment to working with the association to develop basketball in the state.

“It is high time we support the candidature of Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi. He has shown real passion for basketball development and has the skills needed to improve the game in Nigeria,” Odimayo stated.

He mentioned that Nigerian basketball needs leaders who can boost grassroots development, enhance infrastructure, find new talents, and improve the welfare of players, coaches, and other stakeholders.

Abdullahi’s campaign aims to give Nigerian basketball a new direction. He focuses on innovation, discipline, youth development, infrastructure, corporate investment, and forming strong partnerships.

His DAM Foundation has contributed to grassroots basketball with competitions and development projects, including the annual DAM Foundation Basketball Championship in Okene, Kogi State.

The NBBF elective congress will take place on October 15, 2026. Delegates will choose new leaders to manage Nigerian basketball.

Kogi SWAN believes that if given the chance, Abdullahi will build on the progress made in Nigerian basketball and create a stronger path for the sport’s development.
