Kwara Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper at POS Terminal

Kwara State Police have arrested a man named Muhamodu Sanni. He is linked to a suspected kidnapping gang in the Obudu/Woru area of Ilorin East Local Government. Sanni was caught while trying to withdraw ransom money related to a recent kidnapping.

This information was shared in a statement on Wednesday by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Public Relations Officer for the police command, through the command’s X account. The arrest happened after police gathered intelligence following the abduction of three people during an armed attack in Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.

After the kidnapping, police looked into the financial, logistics, and communication aspects around the case. This investigation led to Sanni's arrest. "The ongoing efforts of the Kwara State Police against kidnapping have seen another important success. Intelligence-led operations have successfully reached the support system of a kidnapping gang in the Obudu/Woru area, leading to the arrest of Muhamodu Sanni while he was allegedly trying to withdraw ransom money linked to a recent kidnapping."

The statement continued, "This success came after the police activated their intelligence and tactical operations after three people were kidnapped during an armed attack in Obudu Village on July 28, 2026. Instead of only focusing on the crime scene, investigators expanded their search to the financial, logistics, and communication channels that support the crime."

"This approach paid off when intelligence about the ransom transaction was effectively used, which led police to Muhamodu Sanni. He was caught at a Point-of-Sale (POS) location while allegedly trying to withdraw money related to the kidnapping,” the statement added.

Sanni told the police about the ransom collection and named two other suspects, Aminu and Umar. She said, "During questioning, Sanni cooperated with police and gave valuable information about his role in the ransom collection. He also shared details about other members of the gang, including two suspects named Aminu and Umar."

"This information has improved our understanding of the network and given us more leads to follow up on,” Ejire-Adeyemi said. She also mentioned that following the proactive strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has assured the public. He said, "The command is ready to disrupt criminal networks, weaken their power, and limit their actions. We urge the public to keep supporting us with timely and credible information."
