Kwara Villagers Free After Six Months in Captivity

Residents taken during the violent attack on Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are now free.

This was shared on Wednesday in a short statement on the state government's official Facebook page. The statement thanked President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, and everyone involved in getting the victims back home.

Authorities have not revealed how many victims were released or the details of what led to their freedom. They also did not say if any conditions were placed on their release.

"Woro kidnap victims regain freedom," the statement said. "Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!"

PREMIUM TIMES reported that over 100 people, including women and children, were taken during the attack on the community in early February.

The attackers, who are part of the Boko Haram group led by Sadiku, also killed many people and set homes on fire during the raid.

While the state government has not confirmed how many were abducted, locals, including Salihu Umar, the village head of Woro, said about 176 people were taken.

Mr Umar’s wives and daughters were among those kidnapped.

The February attack led to widespread anger across the country. It prompted President Tinubu to order stronger military actions in the area as security forces worked to rescue the captives and bring peace back to the affected communities.
