The Lagos State Government has arrested a man for damaging a concrete barrier meant to stop pedestrians from crossing the expressway in the wrong places. This incident happened at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along Ikorodu Road.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared this news in a post on X on Saturday. He said the arrest was part of monitoring and enforcement operations done the day before.
Wahab explained that the suspect was caught taking out iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other important parts that help keep the concrete barrier strong and effective.
“During monitoring and enforcement operations yesterday, our team apprehended a suspect at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along the Ikorodu Road, for vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points,” he wrote.
The commissioner added, “The suspect was found deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other critical structural components that contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the concrete barrier.
“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. This enforcement action shows the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users and residents.”
This arrest is part of the Lagos State Government's ongoing work to protect public infrastructure from vandalism. Wahab stressed that anyone caught doing such acts will be prosecuted according to the law.
This news comes as concerns grow about the removal of metal parts from public structures in the state. Authorities say these actions put safety at risk and waste public resources that are used for infrastructure.
