The Lagos State Squash Association has announced that the fourth edition of the Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament will take place from June 22 to June 27 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Tomi Falase, the chairman of the association, said this annual tournament has become one of Nigeria’s top squash competitions. It gives elite players and rising stars a chance to show their skills.
Falase mentioned that this year's event will be bigger and more competitive. It will bring together some of the best players in the country and promising young athletes ready to shine on the national stage.
"The Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament has continued to grow in stature and significance over the years, contributing immensely to the development of squash in Nigeria," he stated.
He added, "We are excited about the fourth edition and look forward to another week of exciting matches, healthy competition and the discovery of new talents."
According to Falase, the tournament is not just about competition. It also promotes grassroots development and keeps young Nigerians interested in squash.
He highlighted that the last edition showed how the tournament helps shape future stars. Several players made a name for themselves during the event.
Falase remembered how Yusuf Quadri stood out by winning both the senior men’s and Under-19 boys’ titles. Quadri surprised experienced player Farouk Sulaimon by winning 3-1 for the senior men’s title. He then defeated Joshua Daniel by the same score to win the Under-19 boys’ category.
In the women’s category, top seed Rofiat Abdulazeez showed her strength by beating Farida Soliu 3-1, retaining her title as champion.
Similarly, Aisha Abdulazeez displayed great skill in the U-19 girls’ final. She swept past Zainab Ishola 3-1 to take the title.
Falase praised Prime Atlantic for its steady support and sponsorship. He said this partnership is key to growing the sport and helping future champions emerge.
He also thanked the Lagos State Government for its support of sports development. The government provides facilities that help young people pursue their sporting dreams.
Falase encouraged sports fans, businesses, members of the squash community, and the public to come to the tournament and cheer for the athletes.
"We invite everyone to be part of this memorable edition as we celebrate excellence, resilience and the enduring spirit of sportsmanship."
"We are confident that the fourth edition of the Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament will surpass expectations and further strengthen Nigeria’s position in the sport," he concluded.
