The Lagos State government has said Iddo Bridge will be closed temporarily. This is to allow for the installation of heavy steel bridge beams. This work is part of the ongoing repairs and reconstruction of the bridge.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the State Commissioner for Transportation, shared this news in a statement issued in Lagos.

Osiyemi explained that the installation will happen in two phases. The first phase will run from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 17 June, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, 18 June. The second phase will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, 21 June.

He emphasized that the whole section of the bridge will be closed to vehicles during these times. This is to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams by the Federal Ministry of Works.

"Therefore, the entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge," he said.

Osiyemi advised motorists to find alternative routes while the bridge is closed. He suggested that drivers coming from Oyingbo and Yaba to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain should use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.

He also mentioned that motorists traveling from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain should take the ramp to Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo, and proceed via Murtala Muhammed Way.

According to him, those traveling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina should use the Eko Bridge. They can connect through Apapa Road, then continue on Murtala Muhammed Way, Iddo-Onigbe, and Carter Bridge.

Osiyemi urged road users to be patient and cooperate with traffic management officials. These officials will be on ground to control traffic during the temporary closure.

He promised residents that there would be proper traffic control measures. This is to reduce inconveniences and ensure smooth movement of vehicles during the closure.
