The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has shut down a nightclub and a hotel for noise pollution and breaking environmental rules.

The agency said the places, Westgate Arena Club in Olowora and Dave Premium and Suites in Alapere, Ketu, were closed on Monday due to their failure to follow environmental guidelines and notices they received.

In a statement on Tuesday on LASEPA’s X page, they said the action was taken on the orders of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. This is part of the Lagos State Government’s plan to enforce environmental laws and protect people's health.

LASEPA noted that Westgate Arena Club, found on Apostolic Church Close, Olowora, was sealed because of ongoing noise pollution and not following the agency’s orders.

They added that Dave Premium and Suites, located on Alhaji Irorun Street, off Kazeem Street, Alapere, Ketu, was also shut down for the same reasons.

“The enforcement exercise followed repeated environmental violations, especially noise pollution, and the failure of the affected places to comply with abatement notices and other rules aimed at protecting the environment and residents' well-being,” the statement said.

The General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi, spoke about the operation. He said the agency is dedicated to protecting public health and making the environment cleaner and safer in Lagos.

According to him, “Environmental compliance is a shared duty. People and businesses must strictly follow environmental laws and rules.

“LASEPA will keep stepping up enforcement actions against those who break the rules to reduce environmental problems and protect residents from pollution.”

Ajayi encouraged residents, business owners, and those running hotels and entertainment venues to be environmentally responsible and work with regulatory bodies.

He said the agency will continue to use all legal means to ensure that environmental rules are followed without compromise.
