Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and 14 other governorship candidates have signed a peace agreement. They promised to ensure peace and order during the upcoming 2027 general elections. Lawal is the candidate for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The peace agreement signing took place at the Peace Accord and Election Security Summit in Gusau, organised by the Zamfara State Police Command.
This ceremony aimed to promote peace and order for all political parties as they prepare for free and fair elections in 2027.
Governor Lawal and all candidates for governorship, national, and state assembly elections were invited to sign. They vowed not to violate or disrupt any election processes before, during, and after the elections.
The governor signed the agreement and prayed for peace and fair elections. All the political parties with candidates made similar promises.
In his speech, Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Bello Daga, urged all candidates to avoid breaking any election laws. He warned that any political aspirant or party member who breaks the law will face legal action.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kabir Abdul Randawa, assured political parties and residents that the police would provide enough security. He emphasized the need for peaceful political activities in the state.
Randawa encouraged all political parties and candidates to reject intimidation, violence, and any actions that could disturb the peace. Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Governor Lawal has been actively promoting peace and security in Zamfara State.
