Lead City University in Ibadan shocked African champions University for Development Studies from Ghana by winning 1-0. This match was part of the 15th West African University Games in Ile-Ife, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
UDS had started strong, winning their first match 4-2 against Afe Babalola University. They scored four goals to show they were serious contenders in Group B.
But Lead City played a solid defensive game, stopping UDS from scoring. Just one goal was enough for Lead City to take home all three points.
This loss is a big change for UDS. They went from scoring four goals against ABUAD to not scoring at all against Lead City.
ABUAD managed to score two goals against UDS, but Lead City did even better by not allowing any goals and taking their chances when they had them.
This result changes the Group B standings. UDS cannot build on their first win, while Lead City has improved their chances to move on to the knockout stages.
For UDS, this defeat is their first challenge in the competition after their strong start. They will need to respond well moving forward.
Lead City, on the other hand, has made a strong impression by holding off one of the top teams in the tournament and gaining important points.
This outcome adds more excitement to the men's football competition in Ile-Ife. The fight for advancement in Group B is now wide open.
