LP Calls on Governors to Follow Otti's Example Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Labour Party has called on governors and political leaders across Nigeria to follow the leadership style of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Ken Asogwa, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made this appeal in the party’s Independence Day message on Wednesday. He encouraged Nigerians to stay hopeful despite the ongoing economic and security issues in the country.

Asogwa noted that Otti, elected under the Labour Party banner in 2023, has shown what the party calls credible leadership. He said Otti has given Nigerians seeking change a reason to believe in the party’s candidates for the upcoming elections.

He stated, “Given the demonstrated credible leadership taking place in Abia State, where Governor Alex Otti, a product of the Labour Party, holds sway, the Party is bold to say that it is a party that has been tested and has proven its fidelity to its promises to the Nigerian people.

“Governor Otti, our pride and a role model in true leadership, has given every Nigerian yearning for change a reason to trust in the candidates of the Labour Party in the coming polls.

The Labour Party's praise for Otti comes as political parties gear up for the 2027 elections. The focus will be on presidential, governorship, and legislative contests in the coming months.

Asogwa continued by stating that the party's candidates for the next elections, from the presidential level to state assembly positions, are both competent and credible. He urged Nigerians to see the Labour Party as a viable option when they go to vote.

“It is against this background that the Labour Party urges Nigerians to look in the direction of the Party for exemplary leadership.

“The party has fielded very competent and credible Nigerians for the coming general elections, beginning from the presidential to the state assembly positions, and enjoins our suffering citizens to look in the direction of the Party for salvation and succour,” he said.

The party also asked those in public office to lead with empathy, justice, and transparency. They emphasized that citizen welfare should be central to governance.

Asogwa linked some of Nigeria’s current economic and security problems to years of ineffective leadership. He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and to hold their leaders accountable.

“There will surely be joy in the morning. It would be a double tragedy for a people who have endured years of misrule to now surrender hope for their country.

“We must remember that meaningful change will only come when we, as citizens, rise to hold our leaders accountable, an obligation that cannot be fulfilled through resignation or despair.

“As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the Labour Party reaffirms its faith in the Nigerian people and in the capacity of our nation to overcome its present challenges and fulfil its enormous potential,” he added.
