The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, Chima Anyaso, has called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to avoid electoral violence. He urged them to resist any attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
Anyaso made this statement during a social contract signing with the people of Bende on Wednesday. He asked them not to give in to intimidation or any form of malpractice that could affect their right to choose their leaders freely.
The event took place in Uzuakoli, where Anyaso presented his manifesto to stakeholders, party leaders, and residents of the constituency. He said, “No election is worth your life. No politician’s ambition is worth destroying your future.”
Speaking to stakeholders from the 13 wards of the constituency, including traditional rulers, youth groups, and civil society organizations, Anyaso urged the young people not to let themselves be used for violence during the elections.
While presenting the pact with his proposed development agenda, he stated, “The pact is a covenant midwifed through hard work and diligence, taking into consideration the interests and plights of communities in Bende Federal Constituency.”
Anyaso, who hails from Igbere, criticized the poor representation and lack of infrastructure in Bende despite the resources the area receives. He promised, “I would attract quality roads, hospitals, schools, and adequately fund skills acquisition and other opportunities for youths and women.”
He also advised voters to carefully review the records and qualifications of candidates running for office in the 2027 elections. He believes democracy works better when credible candidates are elected to lead.
Anyaso called on the people of Bende to reject empty promises and demand transparency, accountability, and measurable results from their representatives. He also mentioned that if elected, he would serve a maximum of two terms, in line with an agreement between the Umunna and Ikwu Isii groups in the constituency.
He said, “I will respect the arrangement and would not seek a third term in office; I pledge to support an Ikwu Isii candidate at the appropriate time since I am from Umunna section.” He stressed that political leaders should create opportunities for younger generations instead of holding on to power indefinitely.
Anyaso urged his supporters not to be scared as the election approaches. He said, “Do not be afraid. Do not allow anybody to intimidate you because you have chosen to support me. Do not let anyone tell you that this election has already been decided. We are winning this one. The power belongs to you.”
He thanked the state governor, Alex Otti, and other Labour Party leaders for their support. Anyaso again reminded youths not to let themselves be used for violent acts.
At the event, several leaders praised Anyaso for the pact. They included the SSA to the Governor on Environment, Prof Ijeoma Iheukwumere; State Labour Party Chairman, Chief Peter Azubuike; Abia North Coordinator of the State Campaign Council, Chief Emeka Charles-Kalu; Mayor of Bende LGA, Deacon Uwabunkeonye Bassey; and Director of the Chimaobi Anyaso Campaign Council, Pastor Okey Dike. They described Anyaso as a reliable leader and pledged their support for his political ambitions.
