Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor and presidential candidate of the Alliance People’s Movement (APM), has called on President Bola Tinubu to share the pricing details for petroleum products.

He believes this will help Nigerians understand how fuel prices are set.

Mr Makinde made this statement on Saturday in Yola, Adamawa State, during the APM North-east town hall meeting. Here, party members and candidates discussed strategies for the 2027 general elections.

His call comes as many Nigerians are worried about rising petrol prices and the government's efforts to relieve consumers from the high costs.

On Friday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited announced it would extend a petrol discount that started on 1 October until 31 October at its retail stations across the country.

NNPC said the discount aims to give Nigerians some temporary relief as global crude oil prices remain high due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

However, NNPC made it clear that this discount does not mean a return to subsidies or set a uniform national price for petrol.

The company added that the discount only applies to its own stations and does not change the market-based pricing system for fuel.

At the town hall meeting, Mr Makinde criticized the Tinubu administration for not keeping its promises. He argued that the government's actions have not made a real difference in people's lives.

He questioned how effective government plans on compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles, the naira-for-crude policy, and efforts to tackle insecurity and poverty have been.

"Give us your pricing templates so that we can make our inputs as Nigerians, because government is for everyone, not only those in the corridor of power," he said.

Mr Makinde promised that if he becomes president in 2027, he would tackle the country’s problems honestly and involve Nigerians in finding solutions.

He also said he would set up a transitional government of national unity that would allow people from all six geopolitical zones to participate in national development.

"If given the mandate by Nigerian voters in 2027, our government will not allow one section of the country to dominate the system, rather it will be a transitional government of national unity," he added.

Bala Mohammed, the party’s national leader and governor of Bauchi State, praised party members for backing Mr Makinde's visit to the North-east.

Mr Mohammed described the APM as a trustworthy political platform ready to solve Nigeria’s problems and urged Nigerians to support the party and its candidates in the upcoming elections.

Speaking for the party’s governorship candidates in the area, Abdulrahaman Haske, the APM candidate in Adamawa State, said they are focused on winning in 2027.

He encouraged party leaders, members, and supporters to step up their campaigns in their states, local government areas, wards, and polling units to challenge the ruling party.
