Man and Cow Rescued from Well in Kano

The Kano State Fire Service has saved a 40-year-old man and a five-year-old cow after they got stuck in an old well in Sabon Ruwa Village, Makoda Local Government Area of the state.

This incident happened around 3:22 PM on Wednesday. The cow fell into the well, and its owner, Badamasi Ibrahim, tried to rescue it.

The Fire Service shared this news in a statement from its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the report, the Emergency Response Unit at Danbatta Fire Station got a distress call from Ibrahim Jibrin. He went to the station to report what happened.

"The distress call was made by Ibrahim Jibrin, who came to the Danbatta Fire Station to report the incident," the statement said.

Firefighters quickly went to Sabon Ruwa Village. They found the cow stuck in the well.

"Our men immediately rushed to the scene, where they discovered that a five-year-old cow had fallen into an old well," the statement said.

The report explained that Badamasi, trying to save his cow, jumped into the well but got trapped himself.

"The owner of the cow, Badamasi Ibrahim, about 40 years old, attempted to enter the well to rescue the cow. However, he also became trapped inside the well and was unable to get out," it added.

The firefighters then launched a rescue mission and successfully brought both Badamasi and the cow out alive.

"Our personnel successfully rescued both the cow and Badamasi Ibrahim alive," the statement said.

The situation was serious because Badamasi had trouble breathing while he was trapped.

"The man had difficulty breathing while trapped inside the well, but our personnel were able to rescue him safely," the statement added.

Sani Anas, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, spoke about the incident. He warned people not to enter wells to rescue anyone or anything, saying it could be dangerous.

"Members of the public should refrain from entering or diving into wells under any circumstances, as doing so could result in serious injury or loss of life," Anas warned.

He advised people to call trained emergency responders when such situations happen instead of trying to rescue themselves.

"Whenever a person or animal falls into a well, members of the public should immediately contact the fire service or other appropriate emergency responders," he said.

Anas emphasized that trained firefighters have the right tools and skills to handle these kinds of rescues safely.

"Do not put your own life at risk while trying to rescue someone or an animal from a well. Call the appropriate emergency responders and allow trained personnel to handle the situation," he added.

The fire service also advised residents, especially in rural areas, to be careful around old and abandoned wells. They should make sure these wells are covered or secured properly.

The agency stated that quick reporting of emergencies allows them to respond faster and reduce the risk of loss of life.
