A 43-year-old staff member at a public primary school in Ilorin, Amuda Olubukola, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State. He is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old pupil.

Sources say the suspect turned his school office into a place for his crimes. He allegedly abused the Primary 4 pupil repeatedly until she became pregnant, which led to the discovery of his actions.

The NSCDC spokesperson, Ayoola Micheal, confirmed this in a statement on Friday. He said the Gender Unit acted quickly after receiving a formal complaint regarding the situation.

He explained, "The arrest followed a complaint received by the Gender Unit of the Command, which triggered an immediate investigation into the disturbing allegation."

Micheal described how the suspect allegedly manipulated and silenced the young girl during the assaults. He said the suspect used force and restraint to carry out the abuse.

"The victim further alleged that the suspect repeatedly promised to marry her before subjecting her to the abuse. During the incidents, he covered her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm," he shared.

The situation came to light when the girl's mother noticed physical changes in her daughter and sought help from the police. Micheal said, "The case came to light after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter had allegedly become pregnant as a result of the abuse."

When investigators confronted Olubukola, he reportedly admitted to the abuse but tried to shift the blame away from himself. Micheal said, "The suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation. He was attempting to attribute his actions to ‘the work of the devil.’"

Abbas Mohammed, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, condemned the act. He expressed anger over the violation of trust and called the abuse an unacceptable attack on childhood dignity.

"Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse," he said. "Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offense against society and will face the full weight of the law," he warned.

He promised that the case will be taken seriously, assuring the public that it would not be ignored. "Investigation is nearing completion. The suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as the necessary legal processes are concluded," he stated.
