Man saved after jumping from bridge in Plateau State

A middle-aged man was rescued on Friday after he jumped into the water from the British American Bridge in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident happened around 1pm. It caught the attention of commuters and residents nearby, who quickly stepped in to help.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the event to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday. They expressed shock at what the man did.

Mr Dalyop Gyang, who was passing by when it happened, described how things unfolded.
"Several persons raised the alarm and he was eventually rescued," Gyang said.

He explained that the man “walked towards the bridge at around 1pm on Friday afternoon before jumping into the water.”
Gyang noted that the rescue was a team effort by people around.

"The rescue operation was carried out quickly by people around the bridge, who worked together to get the man out of the water," he added.

Gyang also mentioned that the man looked injured and needed urgent medical care.
Our correspondent reports that the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Another eyewitness, Mercy John, shared that security personnel arrived at the scene later.
She said, "Some policemen came to the area but I don’t know what they were about to do."

As of the time of this report, the reasons behind the man's jump were not clear.
The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached for comment.

However, sources at the command’s headquarters in Jos said they have started an investigation to find out what led to the incident.
