Former Super Falcons assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi has told the team to stay calm and take advantage of the chance they have on Thursday. They will face South Africa in a World Cup play-off. He believes Nigeria's performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was better than many people think.
Abdullahi is now the Technical Director at Sokoto United. He also serves as the Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association. He has coached with the Falconets and Flamingoes before joining the Super Falcons' coaching team.
Abdullahi said, “The truth is that Falcons did not play the way people think. My own candid advice is for them to calm down, make use of the opportunity that comes their way on Thursday and get the slot for the next step.” He shared this during an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra.
The former assistant coach has often called for more investment in Nigeria’s grassroots women’s football. He believes this is key to maintaining the country’s top position in African football. Abdullahi continues to support the current players, even as people criticize the coaching staff after the team’s quarter-final loss to Cameroon.
Nigeria must beat Banyana Banyana in Casablanca on Thursday to move forward to the FIFA Intercontinental Play-Off Tournament. The winner of this tournament will secure a spot at the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
