The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s performance will shut down his critics and help him win re-election in 2027.
Matawalle spoke on Tuesday during a Contact and Sensitisation Retreat put together by the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives in Sokoto. He accused those against the administration of spreading lies and propaganda to bring down the President’s achievements.
He insisted that these attacks would not lessen the effects of Tinubu’s policies and reforms.
“Those attacking President Tinubu with lies and propaganda will be disappointed. His achievements and commitment to national development will speak for themselves in 2027,” Matawalle said.
The minister mentioned that Tinubu has shown strong leadership by handling insecurity, pushing economic reforms, and supporting important sectors of the economy. He said the government has improved the strength of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, resulting in major progress against insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
“President Tinubu inherited serious security and governance challenges, but he has shown courage and determination in addressing them. His administration continues to invest in security, infrastructure, education and human capital development,” he noted.
Matawalle also spoke against what he called intentional efforts by some political figures to mislead Nigerians and tarnish the government’s image.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals have chosen to spread misinformation and negative narratives despite the administration’s efforts to promote unity, peace and progress,” he added.
He urged young people to resist being used for political propaganda that can cause division and instability.
“Our youths must reject falsehood and focus on initiatives that promote national development, peace and social harmony,” he stressed.
Earlier, the Lead Convener of the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives, Yusuf Abubakar, mentioned that the retreat aimed to strengthen grassroots support for Tinubu and highlight the administration’s achievements.
“Our objective is to mobilise support by educating Nigerians on the President’s policies, reforms and development agenda,” Abubakar stated.
He called for better teamwork among stakeholders to keep the public aware of the administration’s programmes and praised Matawalle for his role in mobilising support across the North-West.
The retreat brought together 58 leaders from community groups, associations and ambassadors from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna states.
