Military Troops Take Down Terrorists, Seize Weapons in Zamfara and Kaduna

Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, also known as Operation Fansan Yamma, have taken down several terrorists and seized weapons during operations in Zamfara and Kaduna states.

These operations took place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The troops from Sectors 1 and 2 were on a mission to stop terrorist activities and the movement of weapons in the region.

In Zamfara State, Sector 2 troops acted on reliable information about terrorists moving from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas. They set an ambush for the terrorists at Kwanar Jolof.

Lt Col Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of JTF North West Operation Fansan Yamma, reported that the troops engaged the terrorists and “neutralised scores of them,” while some managed to escape.

The troops recovered a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, one RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle, among other items.

In a different operation in Kaduna State, Sector 1 troops stopped a vehicle at a checkpoint on the Saulawa-Zaria Road. Danja noted that one of the passengers resisted when they searched his bag and tried to run away after being asked to open it. The troops chased him and neutralised him.

A search of the bag revealed 793 rounds of ammunition hidden inside garri. “The vehicle and its driver are currently in military custody for further investigation,” he said.

Danja explained that these operations are part of the ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to break down terrorist networks, disrupt weapons flow, and limit terrorists' actions in the Joint Operations Area.

He emphasized that the troops are dedicated to bringing lasting peace and security to communities affected by terrorism in the North-West. “Troops remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and committed to the restoration of lasting peace across affected communities,” Danja said.
