Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has praised Nigeria’s young players. This came after their exciting 3-3 comeback draw against Russia in an international friendly at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday.
Nigeria started strong with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring first. But soon, they found themselves down 3-1 as Russia netted three goals. The Super Eagles did not back down and fought hard in the second half. Debutant Peter Edokpolor cut the deficit before Akor Adams scored a late equaliser in stoppage time.
This friendly match gave head coach Éric Chelle a great chance to check out several players. Nine players made their senior international debuts. Only six players who started had played for the Super Eagles before, showing how inexperienced the team was against Russia.
Simon, one of the more experienced players, shared his thoughts on the game. He admired the strength and spirit that the younger players showed.
On X, the Paris FC forward said, “A tough atmosphere, a demanding test, but these young players stood tall and showed real character to earn a commendable draw.”
He also pointed out the skills he saw from the emerging players during the match. “The talent, courage and composure on display offer plenty of reasons to believe in a brighter and greater future for this team,” Simon added.
The experienced winger wrapped up his message on a hopeful note. He said, “The future is looking good for our country.”
This draw was a positive outcome for Nigeria after their 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in their last game. It also gave Chelle important insights into the talent and potential in his squad as he prepares for future competitions.
