The NCDMB plans to install a 2.5-megawatt Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) power plant at the park by the target date. This power plant is a major step towards making the facility operational. It will provide steady and sustainable electricity to support industrial work in the park.

Obinna Ezeobi, the General Manager of Corporate Communications at NCDMB, gave this update after a visit to the facility by key board members on Friday. The visit showed that significant progress has been made in building key infrastructure and support systems. These efforts aim to turn the park into a major industrial center for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme was created to boost Nigerian Content. It aims to provide a suitable environment for making components, equipment, and other supplies needed by the oil and gas industry. The park is expected to create jobs for over 2,000 people when fully operational and help drive economic growth.

Mr Olubisi Okunola, the Manager of Strategy and Transformation Projects at NCDMB, provided more details about the facility's current status. He said that several important facilities in the park are complete and ready to use. These include manufacturing shop floors, a working water treatment plant, well-equipped accommodation, modern classrooms, an amphitheater, and residential apartments for trainers, facilitators, and guests.

Along with the CNG power plant, NCDMB has also finished important power infrastructure. This includes the switchgear building, transformers, and heavy-duty generators. To boost the park’s ability to manufacture goods, the Board has awarded a contract for filling ponds within the facility with sand. Once this sand-filling is done, six manufacturing sheds will be built on the reclaimed land to provide industrial spaces for potential investors and service providers.

Environmental maintenance is also in progress, with landscaping and regular upkeep happening throughout the park. These actions help to maintain existing infrastructure and keep everything ready for operations. Ongoing work at the facility is focused on making sure all the supporting infrastructure and utilities needed for operations are ready by the park’s planned opening date.

When it opens, the Oil and Gas Park Scheme will be a key platform for growing local manufacturing and service companies. It will help reduce reliance on imported oil and gas parts, create jobs for Nigerians, and increase local involvement in the oil and gas value chain.

The NCDMB is dedicated to successfully delivering this project. This aligns with its goal of building local capacity and advancing Nigerian Content in the oil and gas sector.
