Nigeria men’s cricket team captain, Sylvester Okpe, said the team’s quest for a World Cup spot starts now. They are getting ready for important international matches.
Okpe talked about their training, saying moving from the quadrangular series in Lagos to their camp in Abuja has been inspiring. He mentioned the good vibe in the team, both on and off the field. This has helped the players feel ready for the tournament.
“Coming from Lagos from the quadrangular to Abuja here has been really exciting,” Okpe said. “Being in Abuja means all around off and, on the field, being happy with the environment and what is being done, we put the guys in the best state of mind into tournament.”
He described the upcoming matches as a key part of their plan to reach the World Cup. The captain said the whole team is focused on this goal.
“It should be really exciting for us because it’s a step away from the workout; as a team, we set a goal to get into the World Cup, and it starts now. So, this is like a stepping stone for us to get to the World Cup stage,” he explained.
With team spirit high, Okpe is confident the players are ready to perform well and keep winning. “So, it’s always exciting to be at the winning point of the tournament. So, it’s something we’re looking forward to do. Everybody is really excited to be here and to play,” Okpe concluded.
