The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has announced the schedule for the 2026 Commonwealth Games Trials. The competition will last three days, from June 20 to 22, in Lagos. Athletes will compete for spots on the national team, according to Saturday PUNCH.

These trials will showcase some of Nigeria's best track and field athletes. They will decide who represents the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will be held from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The first day, Saturday, will kick off with the women’s 5,000m final and the men’s discus final. This will be followed by the first-round heats for the men’s and women’s 100m events.

Later, there will be the men’s high jump final and the opening heats of the men’s and women’s 400m races. In the afternoon, focus will shift to the women’s long jump, women’s shot put, and the 800m finals for both men and women.

Also on that day are the women’s 100m heats, the men’s triple jump final, and the men’s 5,000m final.

On Day Two, June 21, race walkers will compete in the men’s and women’s 10,000m events. Field event athletes will take part in the women’s javelin, women’s triple jump, and the finals for men’s and women’s hammer throw.

Track events on this day will include heats for the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 400m hurdles. The afternoon will feature the exciting 100m and 400m semi-finals for both men and women.

The day will wrap up with the finals of the men’s and women’s 100m, which are expected to be among the most exciting events of the trials.

The final day, June 22, will start with heats in the men’s 110m hurdles, women’s 100m hurdles, and the men’s and women’s 200m.

The afternoon session will promise a thrilling conclusion, with finals in the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles, men’s javelin, women’s high jump, men’s and women’s 1,500m, women’s discus, and the men’s and women’s 400m.

The competition will end with the finals of the men’s and women’s sprint hurdles and 200m events. Athletes will make their final efforts to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.
