The Nigerian government has strongly condemned a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This attack has killed civilians and injured many others.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying the attack reportedly resulted in 12 civilian deaths and over 300 injuries.

Nigeria called the incident a dangerous escalation that violates Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty. It also said the attack undermines efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

This statement from Abuja comes as Riyadh deals with more attacks. A projectile hit the airport on Sunday, causing a fire in one of its passenger areas and injuring several people, as reported by Saudi authorities.

The Ansar Allah group, known as Houthis, in Yemen took responsibility for the attacks. They warned airlines and passengers to avoid using Saudi airports and airspace.

Nigeria urged all parties to respect international law. The government called for restraint to avoid further escalation.

It also emphasized the need to prevent actions that could harm civilians, damage civilian infrastructure, or threaten regional security.

Nigeria showed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and sent condolences to the families of those who died in Saturday’s attack. The government also wished a quick recovery for the injured.

Furthermore, Nigeria stressed the importance of respecting Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It called for the protection of civilian lives and vital infrastructure according to international law.

The ministry praised the Saudi government for its quick response to the attack. It acknowledged the efforts to protect the lives and security of its citizens.

Nigeria reaffirmed its support for diplomatic efforts and dialogue aimed at easing tensions and restoring peace in the region.
