Nigerian Army troops have killed a suspected terrorist gang leader. This leader was linked to the death of a soldier in Plateau State. They also found about 5,090 litres of stolen crude oil in Rivers State.

The operations took place between 30 September and 4 October. This information comes from an operational report shared with the News Agency of Nigeria.

The report stated that troops from Sector 9, Operation Enduring Peace, arrested the suspected gang leader. This arrest was related to the killing of a soldier on 26 July at a military checkpoint in Manja Village, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau.

The report mentioned that the gang took the soldier’s weapon during the incident. The suspect later confessed and directed the troops to the gang’s hideouts in Jibiyal Forest on 3 October.

“Troops and vigilantes engaged the gang members on their way, forcing them to flee, while the captured leader was neutralised. A vigilante got gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital,” the report noted.

In Rivers State, the report said troops from the Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, found several illegal refining sites. These sites contained about 5,090 litres of stolen crude oil.

Troops from 16 Brigade and 5 Battalion discovered two sites in Ogblogolo and Ozhochi forests, Ahoada West Local Government Area. They found 40 sacks filled with about 2,000 litres of crude oil there.

“Separately, troops from Sector 3, Operation Delta Safe, working with Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, uncovered two sites in Okarki Forest. This included 26 sacks with around 1,090 litres of crude oil, a small oven, and metal pipes measuring about 180 metres,” the report added.

“Troops from 5 Battalion and 16 Brigade also discovered two sites in Orashi Forest, Ahoada West, containing about 2,000 litres of crude oil and other equipment. The items were treated according to the rules in place,” it concluded.
