The Gambia Police Force has arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man named Audu Williams. He is accused of killing his girlfriend, Esther Tango. Her body was discovered in a bush between Kitty and Siffoe villages in the West Coast Region.

The police shared this information in a statement on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

The victimโ€™s body was found on July 7, 2026. Investigators later identified her as a 41-year-old Nigerian national.

The police added that they figured out the victim's identity, who was initially known only as "Jessica." They found her Nigerian passport while searching her home in Brikama.

"The victim, who was initially unidentified and known as 'Jessica,' was confirmed as Esther Tango, a 41-year-old Nigerian national, after thorough investigations by detectives from the Suba Ward CID Unit, with help from the Crime Scene Investigation Team," the police stated.

"Her identity was confirmed after investigators found her Nigerian passport during a search of her residence in Brikama."

The police mentioned that they used witness interviews, examined the crime scene, and checked telecommunications records to identify Williams as a suspect. They then called him in for questioning.

According to the police statement, Williams allegedly admitted to killing Esther during his interrogation.

"During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime. Initial findings suggest that he lured the victim to Kitty on the night of July 6, 2026, where the tragic event happened before he left her body at the scene," the statement said.

"The suspect has been cautioned and is now in police custody. He will be charged and prosecuted under the laws of The Gambia after the investigation is complete."

The Gambia Police Force praised the investigators for their professionalism and hard work, noting that their efforts led to this breakthrough in the case.

The police confirmed that investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
