A court in the United Kingdom has ordered the deportation of a Nigerian man, Qudus Ajeyemi, after he received a five-year and six-month prison sentence for attempted rape and sexual assault of a woman in Hull, England.

PUNCH Metro got a statement from Humberside Police on Wednesday. The police said 27-year-old Ajeyemi also got a seven-year restraining order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life after his conviction.

Ajeyemi, who lives on May Street in Hull, was found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault. This came after a week-long trial that ended at Hull Crown Court on May 26, 2026.

After sentencing him on Monday, June 15, the court said he must be deported from the UK when he finishes his prison time.

The police report shows that the incident happened in February 2023. The victim returned from a night out to a place on Tavistock Street in Hull.

The woman told the police that Ajeyemi, whom she knew only as “Spartan,” took her to a room, pretending to help her rest.

But instead of leaving, Ajeyemi allegedly made unwanted sexual advances towards her and tried to rape her after she kept rejecting him.

In March 2023, the victim reported the incident to the police. She also gave them a recording of a phone call where Ajeyemi allegedly apologized for what he did.

“She said she thought he was just helping her by taking her to a friend’s room to rest, thinking he would leave. However, he took advantage of her by touching her, and when she rejected his advances, he forced himself on her and tried to rape her.

“She said that the next day he called her to say sorry for what he had done, and she recorded this conversation, which was key evidence at the trial,” the police stated.

Detectives from the Humberside Police Protecting Vulnerable People Unit later identified “Spartan” as Ajeyemi. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape.

Humberside Police noted that he denied the allegations during questioning, even when shown the recorded conversation.

Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson, the lead investigator, praised the victim for pursuing the case despite the long legal process.

“I want to start by praising the woman who came forward and reported what happened to her; reporting this kind of crime is never easy. She showed immense bravery and strength throughout this long process, from reporting the incident to his sentencing.

“Ajeyemi preyed on the woman, taking advantage of her and trying to rape her in a space she should have felt safe, around friends,” Anderson said.

The detective added that the emotional toll of the incident was made worse by Ajeyemi’s refusal to take responsibility, which meant the victim had to go through a six-day trial.

“The trauma and emotional damage he caused will definitely stay with her for life. The impact of this ordeal was only worsened by Ajeyemi’s refusal to admit what he did, delaying the outcome for the victim and forcing her to endure a tough six-day trial.

“We take all reports of rape and sexual offences very seriously and continue to work hard to take offenders like Ajeyemi off our streets,” he added.
