Indian officials have put out a Look Out Circular for a Nigerian man named Emmanuel Afam. This is over his alleged link to the seizure of 3.3kg of MDMA in Kerala.
The Kerala Excise Department announced that they have issued the Look Out Circular for Afam, who is currently on the run. This comes as they ramp up their investigation into the drug seizure near the Pantheerankavu toll plaza in Kozhikode. This report comes from the United News of India on Wednesday.
The department said, "The special investigation into the seizure of 3.3 kg of MDMA near the Pantheerankavu toll plaza in Kozhikode has been intensified."
They also mentioned that, "Nine persons have been arrested in connection with the case so far," while adding, "A Look Out Circular has been issued against Nigerian national Emmanuel Afam, who is absconding."
Wider Operation Against Drugs
This case is part of a larger operation by the Kerala Excise Department during the Onam season. Their goal is to stop the smuggling and illegal sale of drugs, alcohol, and banned tobacco products.
The Onam Special Enforcement Drive started on August 1 and will continue until August 31. So far, it has led to 8,241 cases and 36,633 arrests across Kerala, as reported.
The department said they have increased surprise raids and inspections at known drug and liquor hotspots. They are also checking suspected storage sites and hiding spots of regular offenders.
