Nigerian football fans were key players in SuperSport’s digital FIFA World Cup 2026 experience. They made up 21.2 percent of users on the SuperSport Predictor, according to the broadcaster.

SuperSport shared post-tournament figures showing that Nigeria was second only to South Africa. South Africans accounted for 29.5 percent of registered users on the Predictor platform as of Tuesday.

The tournament took place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Spain won the final, beating Argentina 1-0 in New Jersey.

Nigerian fans contributed to a larger digital success for SuperSport. The broadcaster recorded 19.1 billion views on social media and 677 million video views across all the countries where it showed the tournament.

SuperSport explained that its digital strategy went beyond live TV. They used interactive platforms, local-language storytelling, and creator-led programming to engage African fans throughout the event.

The report stated, "The SuperSport Predictor registered 175,615 users, who made 3.81 million predictions during the competition. Nigeria accounted for 21.2 percent of registered users, second only to South Africa, which contributed 29.5 percent."

It also said, "The Predictor recorded 257,299 game sessions and 160,749 completed challenges, with an 83.1 percent completion rate."

SuperSport produced 817 videos for YouTube and TikTok, which got 677 million views. The two platforms made up 84 percent of the total views. Their content also had 54.4 million engagements and attracted a paid audience of 11.4 million.

The #EverythingCanWait campaign alone brought in 19.1 billion views across social media. SuperSport’s Pan-African creator program added 18.1 million views and 8.8 million engagements, while creator content saw an engagement rate of five percent.

The broadcaster’s website, SuperSport.com, had 10.1 million visitors during the World Cup and generated over six million football video views. It also recorded 417,591 referrals to DStv’s OTT environment.

SuperSport added, "The digital strategy was closely integrated with DStv Stream, whose dedicated FIFA World Cup Hub had six million visits, with peak concurrent streams reaching 933,000."

Local relevance was also key to SuperSport’s approach. The broadcaster noted strong positive feelings about its multilingual commentary. Pidgin commentary, in particular, sparked the most organic social media discussions about the commentators.
