Nigeria’s senior men’s national cricket team, the YellowGreens, kept their strong run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C. They secured a convincing nine-wicket win against Zambia on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Oval 1 in Abuja.
Zambia won the toss and chose to bat first. The Nigerian bowlers did well, limiting Zambia to 142 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
Ismail Kara was the only player who really put up a fight for Zambia. He scored a lively 82 runs off 44 balls. But Nigerian slow left-arm spinner Abdullahi Ismail shone brightly. He took 3 wickets for just 9 runs in his four overs, stopping any late efforts from Zambia.
When it was Nigeria's turn to bat, they easily chased down the 143-run target. They reached 146 runs for 1 wicket in just 14.5 overs.
Isaac Danladi was the star of the match. He scored an impressive unbeaten 90 runs off 47 balls, hitting three fours and nine sixes. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Danladi set a strong base with Selim Salau, who added a solid 50 runs off 39 balls before getting run out in the 14th over. Ali Rahmon came in to help Danladi finish the game, sealing the victory with 31 balls to spare.
This big win increases Nigeria’s chances of moving on to the regional qualification finals. They are set to face Mozambique in their next match on Friday.
