The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has formed a five-year partnership with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission. This deal aims to improve digital skills and strengthen local innovation centers in Southwestern Nigeria.
NITDA announced the agreement on Thursday. The partnership will run from 2025 to 2030 and will cover Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states.
The plan includes building innovation hubs and technology development centers to support startups and create rules for the digital economy.
This collaboration aims to enhance digital literacy and create a clear path for digital growth in the region.
"By combining resources, both organizations aim to accelerate digital skills development, strengthen local innovation hubs, and create a cohesive roadmap for regional digital transformation," the agency stated.
The initiative shows a shared commitment to ensure everyone can benefit in the digital age, according to the agency.
Kashifu Inuwa, NITDA’s director-general, mentioned that working together is key to unlocking Nigeria’s human potential. He said building strategic digital links helps citizens engage better in the digital economy through their daily activities.
Mr Inuwa added that each Southwest state could develop its own innovation clusters linked to local industries and issues.
Similarly, Seye Oyeleye, the director-general of the DAWN Commission, called the agreement a strong starting point for improving the country’s digital literacy.
He noted that NITDA’s plans are not just for the Southwest but will be put into action and monitored closely.
"NITDA will get value from this MoU. The credibility of regional coordination bodies like the DAWN Commission depends on what we achieve, not just on what we sign," Mr Oyeleye said.
By aligning national tech policies with local actions, the partnership hopes to set the stage for a more inclusive, tech-friendly economy that creates lasting opportunities through teamwork.
