Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has called Trabzonspor’s 2-0 win over Beşiktaş a tough match. He praised his team's strong defense after they got another important win in the Turkish Super Lig, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
On Monday, Trabzonspor achieved their fourth straight win under coach Thomas Reis. Ozan Tufan scored the first goal in the 21st minute. Mohamed Salah secured the victory with a second goal in the 71st minute at Papara Park.
Nwaiwu played from the start and helped Trabzonspor keep a clean sheet. Beşiktaş created many chances but could not score.
After the match, the Nigerian center-back recognized the strength of Beşiktaş. He was happy with how his team took their chances to get all three points.
“First of all, we can say that it was a very difficult match for us. We played against a very good team. We scored two goals and then won; we are leaving with three points,” he said, as reported by A Spor.
Nwaiwu also credited Trabzonspor’s strong defense to the team's preparation and teamwork. He praised goalkeeper Andre Onana for his role.
“One of the reasons we conceded so few goals is that we have been working on formations as a team. Our goalkeeper is also helping us a lot in this regard,” he added.
This win moved Trabzonspor up to 16 points after eight games, putting them fourth in the league table. Beşiktaş stayed fifth with 15 points.
With Trabzonspor on a winning streak, Nwaiwu noted that the team must keep working hard and stay consistent to compete for the league title.
“We will go through very big stages to become champions. We know that becoming champions comes through very hard work,” he concluded.
