Ogun Assembly Clears Ex-Speaker of Theft Claims

The Ogun State House of Assembly has made a decision to clear former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo of a theft claim linked to his removal in 2024.

During a meeting on Wednesday at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Assembly changed Oluomo’s impeachment to a resignation through a resolution.

The decision came after the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Lateefat Ajayi, presented the report from the Committee of the Whole House.

This report was based on a motion Oluomo had brought to the Assembly on March 31.

Ajayi pushed for the adoption of the report, which Mr Yusuf Amosun seconded. The House then approved it through a voice vote.

The Assembly stated that the theft claim was not in the notice of removal served to Oluomo.

They said there was not enough evidence to support the claim against the former Speaker.

The Assembly also looked at Oluomo’s request for a clearance or proof backing the allegation, referring to Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The report showed that the House examined the available evidence and chose to withdraw the theft claim.

It noted that the claim would no longer be a reason for Oluomo’s removal from his position.

The Assembly also decided to reverse Oluomo’s removal, changing it to a resignation instead.

They explained that this choice was made to promote unity and harmony among members.
