Ogunshola Warriors have won the PUNCH Summer Week football title again. They beat Aboderin Blazers 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling final held in Magboro, Ogun State on Friday.
The defending champions were tied at the end of regulation time. They then triumphed in a tense shootout to finish another great campaign.
Ogunshola Warriors reached the final after a strong 10-2 win over Emuwa Eagles in the semi-final. Meanwhile, Aboderin Blazers won against Adeyeye Titans 4-3 on penalties after a dramatic 3-3 draw.
The Warriors had to fight back from a two-goal deficit. They managed to win in a dramatic shootout, securing back-to-back titles.
Aboderin Blazers started strong, taking the lead with a goal from Kehinde Fawzi. Okamgba Justice then extended their lead with a stunning shot from his own half.
The Ogunshola Warriors quickly struck back. Ekugbe Gilbert scored to bring it to 2-1. Adekunle Sulaiman then equalised with a volley, making it 2-2. But Ojo put Aboderin back in front with a goal to make it 3-2.
The Blazers held the lead until half-time, but the Warriors came back strong in the second half. Gilbert scored again shortly after Sulaiman returned to the pitch, putting the score at 3-3.
Neither team could find a winning goal before the end of regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout. Gilbert took the first penalty for Ogunshola Warriors and scored. Justice Okamgba responded with a goal for Aboderin.
Sulaiman scored the Warriors’ second penalty, even after he had to retake it. Dare Akogun scored for Aboderin. Tosin then missed for Ogunshola, while Ojo’s penalty was saved, leaving the shootout tied.
Ayomide scored for the champions, but Isaac equalised for Aboderin. The shootout then moved to the goalkeepers. Isaac scored his second penalty, putting the Blazers ahead 5-4.
Chris stepped up for Ogunshola Warriors but his shot was saved by Isaac. This made Isaac the hero as the Warriors won the shootout 5-4.
This victory gave Ogunshola Warriors their second straight PUNCH Summer Week title. Aboderin Blazers finished as runners-up after a strong effort.
Earlier that day, Adeyeye Titans defeated Emuwa Eagles 8-3 to take third place.
