Olamilekan Alabi stood out at the Lagos Hall of Fame Ibile Divisional Boxing Championships in Badagry. He won the men’s 70kg title and was named Best Boxer at the Ojo Local Council Secretariat on Saturday.
Alabi fought Gafar Adeleke of Ajeromi LCDA in a match full of excitement. He started a bit shaky but quickly found his rhythm. He threw a series of jabs and uppercuts that made it hard for Adeleke to fight back.
When the final bell rang, the judges had made their decision clear. They scored the match 4, 1 in Alabi’s favour and praised his skill in the ring.
“This is the reward for weeks of hard work,” he said, beaming with pride. “I want to keep ruling the ring for a long time,” Alabi added.
The event featured 10 bouts that kept fans on their toes. Daniel Daramola of Ojo dominated Farouk Abijuwon of Ifelodun LCDA with a 5, 0 score in the men’s 50kg. Yusuf Kareem of Iba LCDA also had a strong showing, beating Ganiyu Raheem of Apapa Iganmu LCDA 5, 0 in the men’s 55kg.
In a closely contested match, Faezol Fasasi of Iba LCDA narrowly defeated Qudus Akinwande of Olorunda LCDA with a score of 3, 2. There were also two exciting exhibition bouts between students, and both ended in draws, showing the talent of the younger generation.
Princess Muhibat Titilola Rufai-Adeyemi, chairperson of Ojo LCDA, praised the event and promised to continue supporting youth development through sports.
David Mohamed, the LBHF Director, highlighted that the Ibile Divisional Championships are not just competitions but also a way to find new talents.
“We are discovering new talents and shaping them to represent Lagos at major competitions,” he said.
The championships will continue in Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe in the coming months. Everyone is looking forward to the Governor’s Belt Championship happening in December 2026.
